I discovered this magnificent garden below the summit of Mount Jalovec on a snowy Sunday, on such a perfect day when you don’t expect that something more beautiful could possibly happen. Suddenly it strikes me. Another surpassing moment in life. Not the wooden infrastructure, not the endless meadows and not the mighty peaks of the Julian Alps that embrace this peace of Paradise on Earth, but Joži and Mitja were these wonderful shiny people that took my breath away. It was a moment I lived in, and one of the moments I live for. Their energy is so catchy and addictive that I thirst for this dosage over and over again. This stage under the stars is a pasture for my thoughts and I can’t stop wondering: ‘Who is almightier – man or nature?’ In this oasis I realize that these two dimensions are an enviously harmonious if not a perfect match. Marvelous. Overwhelming. Mere superlatives come to my mind. Oh how I like to treat myself to a run-away ticket for this peace of Paradise where I can steal time together with Mitja and Joži. Mitja, known among his friends as Kekec, a name he was given by a famous Slovene children’s-book hero character, is a damn interesting person and I feel honored he came into my life. He is a man of original and distinctive character. In their fairy tale Joži has a role of fairy. She uses her prudence to balance Mitja’s intuition, enthusiasm and to most people incomprehensible way of thinking that always leads him off the beaten tracks, of course, to find the unbeaten tracks. I make a joke about his thoughts being two feet above the ground, although, many a true word is spoken in jest. A fresh and sound attitude to life, special heartiness in the way she looks at you and lovely simplicity are personified characteristics of Joži. Those who look with the heart, simply can’t stay cold-hearted. Two great men characterized by great deeds. So unique that they echo long after. And I’m grateful that we can sense them.
