Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Brod
THINGS TO SEE IN THE CHURCH OF ST. MARY MAGDALENE:
The foundations of the subsidiary Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Brod date back to the 15th century, which can be established from the fresco of St. Christopher on the south outer side of the nave. Remains of a fresco of Mary with Jesus from the second half of the 15th century can also be found in the church. There is also a large fresco of St. Christopher, painted by Jernej from Loka in 1534, on the same wall.
The late Gothic elements in the inside of the church extend towards the Renaissance area with interesting and well-preserved frescoes (e.g. the martyrdom of St. Catherine, veil of Veronica, St. Florian etc.). The remains of vine tendrils and blossoms on the vault are the work of an unknown master from around 1520.
The main altar is carved in the "golden" style, with the year 1707 on its lower part placing it into the beginning of the 18th century. The blossom painted antependium, a plate at the front side of the altar table, with the image of St. Magdalene in the desert originates from the same period.
