Kamen Castle
The castle was built in the 12th century by the Counts of Ortenburg; later it was owned by the Counts of Celje, and from 1436 the Counts of Lambergh. The famous tournament knight Gašper Lambergar lived in the castle, about whom the famous Slovenian folk song Pegam and Lambergar is sung.

Public transport
Begunje - Žaga on Radovljica - Tržič bus line is the nearest public bus stop to Castle Kamen. It's located aproximately 500 meters away from the ancient fort, right next to the operating saw mill. However, the buses on this line operate only 3-4 times a day, thefore it is much easier to use the main bus station in Begunje with frequent connections to both Radovljica and Bled.
The 1,7 km distance from the centre of Begunje to castle Kamen can be easily covered by foot, either through the village side streets, or on the popular Lamberg history trail (Approx. 45 minutes, information panel about the trail can be found on the main bus station).
Every Friday in July and August, a special Hop-On Hop-Off Bus takes visitors from Bled, Radovljica & surroundings directly to Castle Kamen. Free guided tours! Check the current itinerary on the web page of
By road
Use exits Lesce (3), Radovljica (4) or Brezje (5) from A2/E 61 motorway and follow the signs for Begunje na Gorenjskem. Reaching Begunje, drive straight through the village until reaching a junction at the end of village. Turn left for Draga valley and you will immediately see the castle on your left hand side.
Driving from directon of Tržič : turn sharply to the right (signs for "Draga" ) right after driving into the village.
Parking
You can park your car right beneath the castle : turn left before the last house with the wooden through and drive across the narrow bridge. It might seem as if you are driving into someone's private courtyard, but the road goes through right to the castle ruins.
A smaller car park is also available just before the bridge. If both are busy, drive into the valley and use the large gravel parking space next to the graveyard of hostages shot by the Nazi occupier in WWII.
Please avoid parking alongside the road, the large tow vehicles transporting timber will be very grateful to you!
