Osterburg Castle
This mighty medieval castle is one of the most important contemporary witnesses of its kind in all of Germany.
The city of Weida cannot yet be seen, but the Osterburg is in full view: the rocky spur towers proudly over the countryside on which the reeves of Weida have left their mark over the centuries.
Imperial administrators had the castle built in 1163; the construction took around 30 years to complete. Before heading to the restaurant for a meal or watching tinsmiths at work, visitors can take in the museum dedicated to the castle and regional history.
Although the climb up the castle tower is tough, the view of the Vogtland from up top is worth the effort.
