The castle next to the river Saale, which was important in the Middle Ages, and its residential tower, the so-called bower, are a landmark in the region and can be seen from far away.
Ziegenrück is a state-certified resort and is located right at the centre of the Saale-Orla District between the Bleiloch and Hohenwarte reservoirs on the river Saale. The residential building of the medieval castle dates back to the 15th century, when Ziegenrück was ruled by the Reeves of Plauen. The structure is impressive with its picturesque location high above the Saale valley, but it is not open to the public.
