difficult
Distance 19.8 km
The first part of the route takes you along local asphalt roads through small villages and picturesque countryside towards Pokljuka. Above Zatrnik, turn right onto a forest road, where the more beautiful part of the journey through the forests of Pokljuka begins. You have now conquered more than half of the altitude difference. The trail leads you up and down the northern slope of the high plateau of Pokljuka, but you have to keep climbing. The forest road climbs comfortably up to a steep section that leads to Repečnikov rovt - an idyllic high mountain pasture. Above the meadows follow the old forest road, where you can still see the so-called “glajzi” – the depressions in the stones that helped to keep the forestry sledges and carts on course when they were still pulled by horses. After a few kilometres, you find yourselves on a beautiful forest road again, which leads you to the Julian Bike Trail on Planina za lesom, from where you continue your journey towards Bohinj.

Turn-by-turn directions
The route starts in front of Triglavska Roža TIC. Pass through Bled to the lake, then along the northern shore of the lake to Rečica. From there, continue towards Poljšice and along the local road along the edge of the meadows above Gorje towards Krnica. When you reach the main road Gorje - Rudno Polje in Krnica, turn left. A long and sometimes steep climb up the road begins, where you can expect motor traffic, so drive on the right-hand side of the road. Above the hamlet of Zatrnik, at 1020 m.a.s.l., you come to a turnoff with a forest road on your right. Turn right onto the forest road, which leads above the Pokljuka Gorge and on above the pastures of Stara Pokljuka. Keep left at the next two forks. It is a comfortable climb up to the left turn-off for Repečnikov rovt. To make sure you don't miss the turn-off, pay attention to the two yellow Juliana Trail signposts, one pointing left up to Goreljek na Pokljuka and the other pointing right down to Gorje. A steep climb of just under a kilometre awaits, which the more experienced and well-prepared cyclists will take as the sporting challenge of the tour and of course ride without stepping on the ground. Those who are less prepared, will tackle the hill on foot alongside the bike. You will find yourself at the Repečnikov rovt, where you will come to a fenced pasture. A few metres to the right is a crossing for hikers. Carry the bicycles carefully over the crossing. If the cattle are grazing, walk alongside the bicycle to the other side of the pasture, where you repeat the manoeuvre over the fence. You are on the old path, where you can, in the easiest gear and with not too much effort, reach the forest road that leads you to the Juliana Bike Trail. Turn right on the road and after a few kilometres of nice, comfortable riding you will reach the forest traffic circle. After the traffic circle, you need to ride for two kilometres along a moderately sloped road and continue to the Juliana Bike Trail.
