A cycling tour that takes you from Lake Bohinj all the way to the wonderful Pokljuka plateau.
Distance 21.5 km
Highest point1,443 m
Lowest point531 m
Along the route, you will enjoy a ride along the Klodič Cycling Route through the Upper Bohinj Valley and then climb to the Rudno polje Biathlon Centre via the Uskovnica pasture. From there, it's just a few kilometres of cycling through the beautiful forests of Pokljuka to the Zajavornik pasture, where you will join the Juilana Bike Trail.
The trail runs partially along the cycling route and then mainly along the forest roads of the Pokljuka plateau. Forestry machinery can be found on the forest road, so caution is advised when cycling.
IMPORTANT: The Pokljuka Plateau is criss-crossed with forest roads, skidding trails, crossroad and spurs and is difficult to navigate. For easier orientation, we recommend using the GPS track on your phone or navigation device and a map with the routes plotted on it.
The tour starts in the village of Ribčev Laz in front of the Bohinj Info Centre. From the parking lot in front of the info centre, turn left towards Lake Bohinj. When you reach the bridge, turn right and cross it. You will leave the famous Church of St. John the Baptist. Continue along the road to the village of Stara Fužina and at the first crossroad turn right over the bridge. After crossing, turn left onto the cycling route and follow it all the way. Leave the village of Stara Fužina on your left and continue cycling along the Upper Bohinj Valley. Before a short climb, cross the main road through the valley and then ride through the village of Studor, which is located under the mountain of the same name. In the village, turn left at the wayside shrine and continue all the way past the Oplen House Museum (on the right). Leave Studor and ride across the beautiful meadows to the edge of Srednja vas. There, take a sharp left up towards Uskovnica pasture. The terrain is gravel. Then you need to cycle about 7 km uphill to Uskovnica, where you can take a break in a mountain hut. When you reach the chapel on the pasture (there is also a trough where you can get water), continue in the direction of Rudno polje. At the crossroad "Razpotje" turn left (direction Rudno polje) and continue to climb gently. After a few hundred metres before the pasture, turn left and continue climbing. When you get to the crossroads that leads to the parking lot for the Konjščica pasture, turn sharp right and follow the forest road that leads to the biathlon centre at Rudno polje. Leave the centre on your left and turn left at the first crossroad in the direction Viševnik/Triglav. Continue with a gentle climb to the Viševnik ski resort, which you leave on your right. After a few hundred metres of ascent, reach a crossroad where you turn right (direction: Srenjski preval/Blejska koča na Lipanci) and cross the ski slope along an unpaved road. The path continues to climb gently until you reach the sandpit, which you will see on your left. Start descending until you reach the first crossroad, where you turn left. Continue descending and soon the road will lead to the parking area "by the monument" where you turn right. After approximately 1.5 km you will reach the crossroad at the Zajavornik pasture (on your right) and there you can continue your route along the Juliana Bike Trail.
