Mt. Kolovrat, along the panoramic road with views of the Soča Valley
From the town of Kobarid cycle to the village of Idrsko (in direction of Tolmin) where you start ascending along a five-kilometre-long ascent to the village of Livek. From the village of Livek to the village of Livške Ravne you have to overcome another three-kilometre-long ascent along a slightly worse paved road. Continue following the signs for Mt. Kolovrat. From the village of Livške Ravne there is a paved road routed along the ridge of Mt. Kolovrat which truly deserves the name "panoramic".
You cycle past the outdoor museum which deserves a visit and a walk along the trails connecting numerous World War I trenches and shafts. At the sightseeing point above the museum you can enjoy in marvellous views of the Soča Valley on one side of the ridge and of the Region of Veneto on the other.
You continue along the descent to the Solarje Mountain pass and further to the village of Volče. Here, you can decide which bank of the Soča River you would like to cycle along. The road along the left bank of river is less busy. In the centre of the town of Tolmin follow the sign for the town of Kobarid. Cycle through the villages to the Napoleon’s Bridge across the Soča River and continue towards the starting point.
Author’s recommendation
