In previous times Log pod Mangartom played a very important role because important transport routes were routed through this area. You will be amazed by the amphitheatre of the fifteen 2000-metre-high mountains surrounding the valley. Amongst all of the sights and wonders of this small corner of the world you will find the upper part of the Loška Koritnica Valley, which is carved beneath Mt. Mangart and Mt. Jalovec, somewhat neglected. However, solitude and tranquillity represent important assets in addition to all of the wonders of the Alpine world. Cycle from the village of Log pod Mangartom into the Loška Koritnica Valley. Pass the hydroelectric power plant and continue into the peaceful valley. The trail is nicely routed along the water which you can reach at several sections. The cycling tour ends on one of the higher altitude mountain pastures. When you reach the end of the trail you can enjoy in wonderful views, refresh yourself in the clear Koritnica Stream or hike further along the trail to Mt. Jalovec.
You should bring a sufficient amount of food and drinks. Log pod Mangartom with its surrounding area is also known as the valley of hundreds of waterfalls and offers numerous sights and wonders, which are, however, predominantly out of sight. Apart from the Loška Koritnica Valley it is well worth to visit the Fratarica Waterfalls, which are hidden in a cool hollow only a stone’s throw from the parking lot. Another interesting sight worth visiting is “Štoln” – a tunnel which used to connect the village with the nearby village of Cave del Predil. This tunnel served as drainage for the mine in Cave del Predil, as a shortcut for workers from Log pod Mangartom and as an important connection during World War I. From here you can continue along the trail to the pool of the Gorejca Stream which is appropriate for swimming and whose water temperature can even reach 20 ºC. There are four waterfalls in the vicinity of the small lake. On your return, you can also visit the Koritnica Gorge in the lower part of the Koritnica River at Fort Hermann and at the Kluže fortress.
The trail is drivable during the summer months when there is no snow.
