A short walk through the forest leads to two vantage points. Ojstra peč offers views of the Radovljica plains, while from Zijavka there are views over the village of Kamna Gorica.

This short circular trip can be an extension of the popular hike from Radovljica to Kamna Gorica over the Fux footbridge, while for younger hikers it can be a stand alone hike into the forest. From Ojstra peč, which, as the name suggests, is in fact a rather narrow rocky extension of the Dobrava woodlands, there is a beautiful view of the Sava river, the Radovljica plains and the Karavanke mountains. Due to the precipice below, caution is advised here. The Zijavka viewpoint offers views from the opposite side, towards the Jelovica plateau, from where there are the best views of the tightly-packed village of Kamna Gorica and the Lipnica Valley.

Author’s recommendation

You can combine the trip with a visit to the Lipnica Castle Natural Science Trail or a hike from Radovljica to Kamna Gorica, and/or Kamna Gorica to Lipnica Castle.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the sports field/playground in Kamna Gorica, cross the main Radovljica - Kropa road and go straight ahead at the next junction. The road turns into a track and leads past a settlement of wooden glamping huts. Continue straight ahead until you reach a junction of forest paths at a crucifix of the Virgin Mary. The path to the left leads towards Radovljica and Lipnica Castle (Pusti grad), the path to the right leads downwards towards Brezje, while you should take the path that leads upwards to the right. Walk upwards and straight ahead across the slope until you reach a junction of paths at the top of the hill where you should turn left (you will return on the path to the right). Continue along the path until you see the sign for Ojstra peč, which is located on the left-hand side of the path.

After visiting the viewpoint, return to the trail and turn left. After a few metres, turn right in the direction of Zijavka and continue along the path that leads to Zijavka. As you continue your way, take the forest path that leads to the right (as seen from the direction of arrival). This path will lead you back to the junction of forest paths at the crucifix of the Virgin Mary.

Getting there

Kamna Gorica can be reached by road from Radovljica and/or from Kropa.

From Radovljica: Take the exit for Kropa at the roundabout between Radovljica and Lesce and then continue along the main road through the Lipnica valley. When you reach Kamna Gorica, drive past the bus stop and then turn right and park in the small car park beside the main road or next to the sports field/playground.

From Kropa/Podnart: At the crossroads before reaching Kropa, turn right towards Kamna Gorica. In the village, drive past the Gostilna Mlin restaurant and continue along the main road to the sports field/playground where you should turn left and then park.
