On the slopes of Jelovica, well hidden from view from the valley, stretches a grassland plane called Talež. The lower section of this plane stretches all the way to the rim of Jelovica, where you will find a hunting lodge. From the lodge, which can be also seen from Bled, you will get stunning views of the valley from Bled to Radovljica with the panoramic Karavanke range and its highest peak Stol in the background. The renovated hunting lodge is a popular choice for many hikers, tourists and foodies. Talež can be accessed not only via a hiking trail, but also via a gravel forest road from Lancovo near Radovljica. West from the lodge you will find Tolsti vrh, completely covered by forest. Despite the thick forest, you will be able to see the western part of Bled, Mlino, Selo, Straža, Dobra gora and Ribenska gora.

Safety information

Pay attention on the steeper parts of the path from the Ribno bridge towards Talež.

In winter and when the path has icy stretches, the hike to Talež is advised against.

The trail runs through the forest where you can occasionally stumble on fallen trees.

The path is partially marked with guide markings, even though it does not have a hiking route status. Several signposts for Bled hiking trails are also helpful.

Try not to take any shortcuts, as they might be misleading.

RIBNO (RIBNO BRIDGE) - TALEŽ HUNTING LODGE - TOLSTI VRH - TALEŽ HUNTING LODGE - RIBNO (RIBNO BRIDGE)
On the right bank of the Sava Bohinjka river after the Ribno bridge take a right turn and on the rim of a grassland go through the forest, and take a left turn upwards at the crossroads. Follow the steep trail through the forest all the way until it connects with a wider forest path. There, take a right turn until you reach the edge of the plateau (marking) and then right again until you reach the forest path. Follow this path to the hunting lodge. Pass the lodge on the wider forest path, partially on the path and partially on the trail you will pass the deer feeding station where you will take the steep forest path. Follow this path until you reach the saddle and stick to the right side of the ridge westwards until you reach Tolsti vrh. When going back, take the same path by the Talež hunting lodge until you get to the Ribno bridge.

The hike from Bled to the starting point of the tour takes about 40 minutes.
Getting there
You can get to the starting point in Bled by car from Lesce (Ljubljana-Karavanke motorway exit) or from other regional roads from Bohinj or Jesenice.From Bled continue towards Ribno by car (3 km) or walk (40 minutes from the centre of Bled)

There is a small non-regulated car park at the bridge in Ribno.
