The trail runs along the Mostnica Gorge and Voje Valley that belong among the most beautiful natural sights in Bohinj. They offer views of crystal clear pools and boldly water-shaped rocks, as well as diverse flora and fauna and a cultural landscape that has been nurtured by the people throughout the centuries.

The formation of the approximately 2 kilometre long gorge is partly connected to the tectonic sinking of the main Bohinj valley and partly to glacial deepening caused by erosion or the deepening of the Bohinj glacier. The side valley of the Mostnica remained at a higher altitude, or we can say that it is a "hanging valley". The Mostnica river had to overcome the height difference by carving a narrow gorge in the base rock. In some places the gorge is quite wide. In some places it is up to 20 metres deep and the sides are only shoulder-width apart. The deepening of the Mostnica was fastest during the glacial melting (15,000 to 10,000 years ago), when there were enormous quantities of water and its power was immense. The water, together with the material which it carried, carved the rocks.

The grassland of Voje pasture is the open middle part of the Mostnica valley, at an altitude of just slightly over 700 metres. The surface is covered with ground glacial moraine, and towards the south the pasture is closed by the terminal moraine dam. It is rich in water, since the Mostnica has several tributaries and at individual sites, water springs out of the ground. Planina Voje is in a typical glacial valley in the shape of the letter U.

Four bridges and a footbridge cross the Mostnica on the way from Stara Fužina to Mostnica Waterfall, so our ancestors named the river after the bridges: Mostnica ("Bridge Water"). The most famous site is the Devil's Bridge (Hudičev most) which was, according to the legend, built by the devil himself.

Waterfall Mostnica

Turn-by-turn directions

Walk from TIC in Stara Fužina across the bridge over the Mostnica and continue along the asphalt road on the right bank of the Mostnica. Just before Zois Mansion, turn left and cross a small bridge over the artificial riverbed and continue along the right bank past the remains of ironworks. You can see the Mostnica on the left side. Near the dam, continue along the narrow path upwards and arrive at Hudičev most or Devil's Bridge, where you can admire the view of the narrow gorge carved into the limestone by the Mostnica. Cross the bridge and continue along the right bank to get to the entry point.

Walk across the bridge and continue along the left bank. The trail leads you to picturesque pools and potholes. The trail soon turns to an interesting hollow rock between two water-carved potholes is very interesting, forming a natural window with a rocky arch resembling an elephant's trunk. Continue past the deep gorge and come to Češenjski most bridge, cross it. The trail ascends slightly away from the riverbed and comes to a forest road. Rest and freshen up in the alpine hut in Voje.

Continue to the crossroads where the signs direct you left for Triglav, and continue straight on over the Beraški most bridge, which is the entry to the open meadow area. The Slap Voje Inn is located at the end of the valley. From there, there is just a few minutes walk to the Mostnica Waterfall. The Mostnica Waterfall is 21 metres high.

Return along the same route to the inn and then turn right onto the narrow path that takes you to a footbridge. After a few metres the path joins a stone road that runs along the right bank of the Mostnica, return to the crossroads at Beraški most bridge. Continue along the same path to Češenjski most. To return, walk along the right bank of the Mostnica and arrive at the entry point.  Continue along the same way to Devil's Bridge. Don't cross the bridge but continue straight ahead to the car park above Stara Fužina. Walk through the village to get to the starting point.
