Karnjuka is one of ten Cherry Blossom Trails, which are named after old Brda cherry varieties. The trails are marked by brown signposts, yellow and white circles and yellow arrows on roads, rocks and trees.

By taking this trail, you will explore the eastern part of Brda and the area near the Sabotin hill.

The Karnjuka trail starts in the village of Hum, climbs near the Sabotin slopes and goes through the villages of Brestje and Kojsko before returning to Hum. Besides offering amazing views of the Slovenian Brda, the Italian Collio, the Adriatic Sea and the Alps, the trail passes right by the eye-catching church of the Holy Cross in Kojsko, perched on a hill.

The church was once part of a former fortified village, which is evident from the apperance of its bell tower - it is the last of the village's fortified crenellated towers. The church has a path lined with Stations of the Cross chapels and also one of the oldest Gothic altars in Slovenia.

Destination

Hall in Hum

Turn-by-turn directions

The trail starts at the hall in Hum and soon starts climbing slightly towards the point "Na vrhu". Then it descends into the valley of the Pevmica stream and leads along the main road in Podsabotin. It passes the retirement home and then starts climbing again. This is the longest climb of the trail, leading you near the slopes of the Sabotin hill. Then it reaches the road for Sabotin and follows it for a while. The trail then makes a left turn and starts descending to the village of Brestje. Afterwards, it leads through Kojsko and past the Church of the Holy Cross. In Kojsko, it avoids the main road by choosing a less busy road below it. After a short hike, it reaches the starting point at the hall in Hum.
