A walk around Lake Bohinj is almost obligatory for every visitor who comes to Bohinj. You can shorten it and walk only along the north or south shore, where you can enjoy in beautiful views.
Lake Bohinj is a tectonic and the largest natural lake in the Triglav National Park and in Slovenia. The basin of the lake was transformed by the Bohinj glacier. The main tributary to the lake is Savica which springs in the Triglav Lakes Valley. The water in the lake changes three times in a year. Jezernica is the small river flowing from the lake and is one of the shortest rivers in Slovenia. Below the confluence with the Mostnica River, the Mostnica and the Jezernica merge into the Sava Bohinjka River.
The Church of St John the Baptist is the most recognisable symbol of Bohinj. It was built before the year 1300 and is, from a stylistic point of view, the richest building in Bohinj.
During heavy rainfall, the Govic Waterfall occasionally bursts out from the rock above the northern shore of Lake Bohinj. The water rises vertically in the cave and falls with a roar into the channel below the wall. The path is impassable at that time. The entrance to the cave is only a few metres wide and runs down to the underground lake with a very oscillating surface. Usually, the waterfall can be seen for only a few hours.
Prior to every hike, check the weather forecast and trail conditions.
Don't forget to take a camera with you.
If you are on a hike with your children, don't miss visiting the Zlatorog Fairy Trail.
There can be fallen trees in some parts of the trail due to tree cutting and damage caused by strong winds.
The trail can be flooded by torrents during heavy rainfall.
A part of the trail runs on the local motor road.
We recommend hiking boots.

In the past, Ukanc was a grazing pasture. As the legend says, the name "Ukanc" was formed from the phrase "u konc" meaning "at the end of the world", because in the past people believed that the world ended below the walls of Komarča.
A military cemetery is located near the car park in Ukanc. You can visit graves and a chapel that reminds us about the atrocities of World War I.
Zlatorog Fairy Trail is located along the trail around Lake Bohinj. You can walk an hour or the whole day along the approximately 2 kilometres long circular trail. The circular trail can be visited individually or in an organised group. The perfect guide is the booklet containing fairy tales from Bohinj, a map and slots for stamps that you can collect along the trail.
The Church of the Holy Ghost was built in the 16th century in Baroque style. Its exterior has a painting of St Christoph (patron of drivers). The shape of its roof is connected to a legend. When there were major floods, the people of Bohinj asked the church authorities for advice how to get rid of that pest. They took their advice and built a church in the shape of a camel that will drink all the water. Thus, the roof has a camel back shape.
