This tour is the right choice for you if you would like to take a walk, get some fresh air and avoid the heat at the same time. The steep road will take you to the sightseeing point above the Soča Valley.
Distance 2.7 km
On the main road Tolmin – Kobarid, just in front of the turn towards the village of Kamno, you will notice a narrow concrete road on the left with a dead end traffic sign. The road actually ends in the small village of Foni where there is only one house occupied. The steep road is routed through a beech forest and leads past the numerous water sources where you can quench your thirst. Occasionally, the road is also routed along steep and precipitous slopes. After approximately 60 minutes of walking, the forest opens and you can enjoy in splendid views of the Soča Valley from the town of Tolmin to the town of Kobarid.
Just in front of the small village of Foni the road splits into two. The lower road leads past the abandoned mill and a house to the only occupied farmhouse in this small village. If you come across the owner of the house you will certainly get invited to take a drink or two. The sad image of decaying, once beautiful farmhouses, will not let you indifferent. From the courtyards of these farmhouses you can enjoy in marvellous views of the summits on the opposite side of the valley – from Mt. Krn to the summits above the Razor Mountain pasture and also to the west past the town of Kobarid all the way to Mt. Stol.
You should return along the same trail you came from.
If you have the option of using two cars, you can park one along the road to Mt. Kolovrat – at the water reservoir along the road, where a trail turns to the right towards the Kovačič Mountain pasture.
Although the road to the small village of Foni is concreted, you will need comfortable footwear because the road can be slippery due to the north location, steepness and leaves (autumn).
Tips and hints
If you have enough energy, you can prolong the tour to the Kovačič Mountain pasture. The unmarked trail to this mountain pasture starts just before the end of the small village of Foni.
