A good, varied and spectacular hike up to the summit of Krn (2244m), using the shortest ascent route from a car park by the mountain lodge Dom na Planini Kuhinja (991m). The whole route takes about 7 hours altogether at a steady pace, stopping at the mountain hut just short of the summit for refreshments. The route passes across the front line of the Battles of Isonzo (WW1) and particularly Batognica, the top of which was blown off in an accidental weapons explosion. You'll come across various artillery remains, hideouts, and a rusting gun carriage. Amazing views from the summit in all directions towards the Julian Alps, Dolomites and towards the Adriatic.
