The trail over Kupljenik is a circular trail with a 200-metre ascent. Kupljenik is a small and elongated village with many original architectural sites and the beautiful church of St Stephen from the start of the 16th century. The site offers beautiful views of Lake Bled and the surrounding hills and mountains. Kupljenik is also a great starting point for a tour to Babji zob (1,128 metres) and the pasture on Jelovica. Every 26 December, Kupljenik hosts the traditional horse blessing in front of the church. The darkness in winter is quite a special feature of Kupljenik, because due to the Jelovica plateau, the sun does not shine there for almost three months. Along the way, you shall cross the Sava Bohinjka River twice – first, you will cross a wilder part of the river, at the second crossing the river will be calmer. The trail leads you to the start of Selo pri Bledu village, where you can continue towards Bled or Radovljica. The trail is also popular with mountain cyclists

Turn-by-turn directions

BOHINJSKA BELA – VILLAGE CENTRE – KUPLJENIK – SELO – VILLAGE CENTRE – BOHINJSKA BELA

Start in the village centre and turn right behind the Local Community Hall. Continue downwards to the section called Breg. Cross the Sava Bohinjka River, where you can view the board presenting all types of fish in the Sava Bohinjka River. Continue up the slope, cross the Bled–Bohinj road and ascend towards Kupljenik. After 3.5 km you reach the first houses in the village. Continue along the asphalt road to the centre of the village, where you can visit the Church of St Stephen. Continue to the other part of the village and turn left at the manger. The asphalt road ends and you continue across a meadow and past the wayside shrine. At the end of the meadow enter a forest, where you soon see a beautiful wayside shrine in Koren on the left side. This is a site with beautiful views of Bled and the meadows along the Sava Bohinjka River. Continue downwards on the steep slope. Keep on the main cart track. When exiting the forest, continue approximately 100 metres to the bridge across the Sava River. Continue towards Selo village where the signpost directs you to the left side before the village. Continue straight on. At the following two crossroads keep straight on the path until you reach the shooting range. Then climb on the asphalt hill to the main road Bled–Bohinj, cross the road and follow the beautiful path below Osojnica hill to reach the village centre in Bohinjska Bela.
