This is a great afternoon trek if you are looking to get an elevated view of the town of Bovec and the Soča valley below. The trail traverses the base of mont Rombon, a historical mountain and a frontline from Word War 1. On this trail you get the opportunity to pass through a section of deciduous forrest that is common in the mountains surrounding the Soča valley. This 2 hour , 6km loop is perfect if you are seeking a short hike that is suitable for the entire family.

To reach the start of this trek, ascend the road from the center of bovec towards the church. At the base of the church you will find a sign post indicating the direction of Plajer. Follow these signs up to the top of a small plateau at the base of Rombon, where the best views of the valley can be found. The trail then begins traversing a section of the mountain side before leading back down to the the center of Bovec.

Author’s recommendation

For those who are looking for a longer trek, try combining this trail (Plajer) with the Zgodovinska loop trail for a 17km 4 hour trip.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the information center follow the road leading up the hill towards the church. At the base of the church take the road on the right and you will see the first yellow sign indicating the road for Plajer. Following this road up you will pass through two gates (make sure to close them behind you). Shortly after the second gate turn left on the grassy road leading up the hill. Ascend the 3 switch backs, arriving at the third yellow sign, indicating a right hand turn. From here you will accend the hill towards the base of mount Rombon for approximately 1 km before the trail reaches a plateau and changes directions heading East, in the direction of Svinjak. On the plateau, at the base of Rombon, the trail levels out, leisurely meandering throughout the deciduous forrest until reaching the intersection for the Zgodovinska track. At this intersection start walking on the path down the hill, as indicated by the signs. After about 500 meters the trail arrives at a farm house, where a sign is placed at the driveway. The sign directs you down the hill to a paved road below. When you reach the road, walk towards Bovec for 100 meters and then turn left, passing through the forrest for approximately 1 km; You will then arrive on the outskirts of Bovec, on Mala vas street. Walk to the main road from here and then turn right to return to the information center.
