Čmpevka is one of ten Cherry Blossom Trails, which are named after old Brda cherry varieties. The trails are marked by brown signposts, yellow and white circles and yellow arrows on roads, rocks, trees and other flat surfaces.

Starting and ending in Dobrovo, this dynamic loop trail will take you through the villages of Šlovrenc, Gradno and Vedrijan and reward you with magnificent views along the way.

In Dobrovo, you can see the Dobrovo castle and visit its museum and gallery, as well as the Klet Brda winery, the biggest Slovenian winery. The village of Gradno, which is probably named after "graden", an oak species once very common in Brda, is interesting in several ways. Here stands St. George's church with frescoes painted by Tone Kralj and stations of the cross painted by Zoran Mušič. The village is also known for being the home of the oldest olive grove in Brda and for its renovated dry stone walls made of local sandstone, a true rarity. In Vedrijan, you can see St. Vitus church.

Author’s recommendation

On Vedrijanšček, the creek below the village of Vedrijan, five mills used to operate. A mill wheel by the road will remind you of this former trade.

Tips, hints and links

Three drinking fountains can be found on this trail:

  • two in Dobrovo (one at the playground by the Dobrovo castle and one at the parking lot opposite the Klet Brda wine cellar) and
  • one in Gradno (in front of the church).

A trip through Brda is not complete without trying some of our delicious seasonal dishes and excellent products. Seize the opportunity and try some of our local wines, olive oil, honey and spirits!

Selected winemakers, olive oil, honey and spirits producers offer tastings of their products without prior arrangement, some of them also guided cellar tours. The producers will be more than happy to share with you interesting facts about the production and our territory.

The list of selected producers and restaurants is updated every two months and can be found here (October and November).

Turn-by-turn directions

Starting at the parking lot at the Dobrovo castle, follow the signposts leading towards the Klet Brda winery. At the bridge over the Reka river, turn left and walk along the river until you reach the bridge below the village of Fojana. Cross the bridge and follow the trail, leading you past the petrol station towards the village of Šlovrenc. Climb until you reach the chapel-shrine in Šlovrenc. The trail slightly flattens out and passes the village of Slavče, bringing you to the village of Gradno, known for its St. George's church. The oldest olive grove in Brda and the renovated dry stone wall are located higher up by the road, outside the marked trail. Our trail goes behind the church and starts climbing the hills above the village of Višnjevik, where we can enjoy stunning views. A descent through a forest into the valley of the Vedrijanšček stream follows. Cross the stream and start climbing towards Vedrijan. At the end of Vedrijan, the trail starts descending again, this time into the valley of the Imenjščica stream. A slight, roughly one-kilometer-long descent towards Drnovk follows and what is left is only a short climb back to the starting point in Dobrovo.
