The view from Kolovrat is perhaps the finest of the entire trail: not only does it offer a breathtaking view of the Julian Alps, it also offers a panoramic view towards the Adriatic and of the route that will lead us to the sea in the next stages.
The stage follows a section of the famous "Poti miru" (path of peace).
During the First World War, there was fierce fighting between Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops on Monte Kolovrat.
The "open air" museum here is of great importance, as are all the fortifications and caverns along the entire stage route, up to Tribil di Sopra.
Here we’ll walk in the footsteps of a young German lieutenant named Rommel (the same General Rommel well-known from the Second World War battles in North Africa).
The area is also interesting for its nature, flora and fauna.
The rural villages along the route to Tribil di Sopra are of significant historical interest.

The ridge of Kolovrat is a transitory area between the Upper SočaRegion in Slovenia and the Veneto Region in Italy. The outdoor museumis located on the Kolovrat ridge with exceptionally favourable positionfor good panoramic views. In the time of the First World War theItalian army built here an extensive system of its third line ofdefence, called “linea d’armata”.
Numerous country festivals are held during the summer, almost always associated with the anniversary of the patron saint.
The bonfires (Kries) of San Giovanni night are of cultural and historical interest, as is the historical re-enactment of a First World War battle.
In a typical restaurant in Tribil di Sopra, you can savour the ancient traditional dishes of the Natisone Valleys and there is also accommodation thanks to the many hotels or hostels available in the area.

From Tolmino, at 160 m, we follow the SS (state road) towards Caporetto and, crossing the Isonzo River, we immediately take a left onto an asphalt road which, passing by the ancient Church of San Daniele, leads to the village of Volče.
Having crossed the road to Nova Goriza and the town centre, we follow the asphalt road for a couple of kilometers, ascending towards the Passo Solarie pass.
At the first turn we leave the asphalt road and follow a path that leads nearby the Kamnica glade and continues uphill into the woods, until we cross again - at a col or saddle - the road along the Passo Solarie.
From here the trail continues near a wooded ridge, until we reach the road across Mount Colovrat ridge on the Slovenian side, at the starting point of the Kolovrat Historical Museum trail.
Following the Italian World War I defence posts (trenches, forts and caves) we ascend to Mount Klabuk - Na Gradu, at 1114 m (the easternmost peak of Mount Colovrat ridge), where we stop to marvel at the 360 degree panorama (binoculars).
Behind us are the high peaks of the Julian Alps, and in front of us we can see the Adriatic Sea in the distance, where the Alpe Adria Trail ultimately leads.
We descend on the Italian side, first on a steep track through thick bushes (CAI trail 746) and then on a small asphalt road that leads to the former border pass of Passo Solarie and, a little further down, to the hospitable rifugio Solarie, at 956 m. At the rifugio, we leave the asphalt road and go left along a forest road (CAI trail 746), which a bit further ahead turns into a path that descends to the village of Clabuzzaro (Breg), at 802 m altitude.
Following the asphalt road accessing the town, we reach the "Tribil-Drenchia" cart road and follow it leftwards for a short distance.
We then take the CAI trail 747 to the left, leading to the church of San Volfango and, further on, the cart road that connects Tribil di Sopra to Drenchia, a road we will take as far as the village of Rucchin (Zaločilo), at 648 m. From here, still following the CAI trail 747, we continue along the path into the dense woods as far as a marked ridge that we follow uphill westwards up to the summit of Mount Cum (Hum) at 912 m (from Rucchin you can avoid the ascent to Mount Cum by following CAI trail 747a which winds its way upwards just above the cart road linking Rucchin to Tribil di Sopra).
From the top of Mount Cum, the CAI 747 trail descends southwards until we reach the asphalt road leading from Rucchin to Tribil di Sopra.
We follow the asphalt road for a short distance and turn left onto a forest road which will bring us to the village of Tribil di Sopra, at 642 m, where the stage ends.

Public transport
By train:The train goes from Ljubljana through Jesenice and along the narrow Baška Grapa to Most na Soči. From there it is another 5km to Tolmin (by car or bus). The railway timetable.
There is also a car-train Bohinjska Bistrica - Podbrdo - Most na Soči.
By bus:
There is a bus route for Ljubljana - Tolmin - Bovec and for Tolmin - Nova Gorica. Bus schedule.

You can reach Tolmin from Ljubljana over Idrija or Nova Gorica; from Austria over Vršič or Predel pass and from Italy over Udine or Predel pass.Parking
