The tour starts in the town of Kobarid and leads to the Napoleon’s Bridge from where it continues along the right bank of the Soča River to the village of Trnovo ob Soči. When you reach the village, continue across the suspension bridge with stunning views of the wildest part of the Soča River – the Cataract. From there, continue along the cart track on left bank of the Soča River and cross the river again when you reach the Boka Waterfall behind the village of Log Čezsoški. Continue to the village of Žaga where you will start ascending to the former border crossing Učja. Just before your reach it, turn uphill along the forest road towards the ridge of Mt. Stol which will take you across the sightseeing Spodnja Božca Mountain pasture. When you will arrive to the ridge, you will be rewarded with stunning views. Continue along the sightseeing grassy slope along the masterfully routed road and descend into the valley of the Nadiža River. Continue along the river to the village of Kred, which is not far away from your starting point.

Author’s recommendation

This tour is quite demanding from the orientation point of view, which is why we recommend you to use a navigation device. Even though it is possible to take it in both directions, we recommend you to take this tour in the described direction. The ascent to the ridge of Mt. Stol is mostly routed through the forest and in the shade. The descent leads across a grassy slope where the sun can get extremely hot during the summer months.

Turn-by-turn directions

This tour starts at the cemetery in the town of Kobarid. Cycle from the cemetery to the main road, turn to the right and descend to the Napoleon’s Bridge. When you reach it, continue along the paved road along the right bank of the Soča River, pass Kamp Lazar and continue further to the village of Trnovo ob Soči. The road is not busy because it may only be used by the guests of the camp and the owners of the neighbouring properties. Approximately 1.5 km in front of Trnovo ob Soči, turn onto the main road Kobarid-Bovec. Continue to Trnovo ob Soči. When you reach the first houses, turn to the right and start following the signs for the Prosja Bridge. Cross the Soča River, ascend to the meadow and continue along its left side to a cart track which will take you to the village of Log Čezsoški. There are blue STKP signs at all junctions which will be of great help. Just in front of the village of Log Čezsoški you can enjoy in splendid views of the Soča River. Behind the village you will arrive to a bridge crossing the Soča River which leads to Hotel Boka where you will have to turn onto the main road Kobarid-Bovec. Turn to the left and continue for approximately 1.5 km to the village of Žaga. Just behind the bridge, turn to the right onto a side road which is routed parallel to the main road. Ascend along this road until you reach the road Žaga-Učja. Continue ascending along the road above the ravine of the Učja River to the former border crossing. Just in front of the former border crossing, turn to the left onto a forest road. Continue in a long ascent to the Božca Mountain pass on the ridge of Mt. Stol. Descend from the ridge along a cart track to the right and continue to the valley of the Nadiža River. Soon after you start descending, you will have to overcome a short ascent. The road then windingly descends to the paved road Kobarid-Breginj which it reaches in the vicinity of the village of Sedlo. Turn to the left in the direction of the town of Kobarid. Cycle past the village of Homec and shortly after turn to the right along the cart track in the direction of the markings for the village of Podbela. The cart track soon turns steeper and steeper, rocky and demanding (if you are not fond of demanding descents, you can cycle along the road from Homec to the village of Borjana and then descend to the village of Podbela). Just in front of Podbela you will join the main road and descend to Kamp Nadiža in Podbela and continue along the Nadiža River to the village of Kred. Before you reach the village of Staro selo, cross the road Kobarid-Robič and continue to the village of Sužid and back to your starting point.
