Mt. Stenar is the most easily accessible summit above the Kriški podi Plateau. It offers splendid views of Mt. Triglav and the surrounding summits. The trail to Mt. Stenar from the Zadnjica Valley is easy and marked, however, it is long and overcomes great altitude difference, which is why you should reserve a sufficient amount of time and take it when the weather is nice.

Turn-by-turn directions

The tour starts at the parking lot and continues along the road to the junction for the Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih Mountain hut, where you have to turn to the left along the road until you reach the lower station of the freight lift rope. From there, continue along the marked mule trail towards the Kriški podi Plateau. Along the way, you will cross several ravines and an exposed ledge where a safety wire cable is installed. The forest starts becoming thinner and the trail becomes increasingly sightseeing. You will find a spring when you arrive above the tree line. Not far from the spring, you will find a section of an unmarked trail to the Spodnje Krško jezero Lake on the right. When you finish admiring the lake, return to the trail. Just in front of the Pogačnikov dom Mountain hut, turn to the right in the direction of Mt. Pihavec, Mt, Bovški Gamsovec, Mt. Stenar and the Vrata Valley. Ascend to the Dovška vrata Mountain pass and continue straight ahead towards Mt. Križ and Mt. Stenar. When you reach the next junction, turn to the right. The trail to the left leads to Mt. Križ. Follow the markings to the top of Mt. Stenar and return to the valley along the same trail you came from.
