This easy hiking trail will reward you with splendid views of the Venetian Slovenia and the alpine and subalpine belt.

You can reach the top of this mountain along the shorter or somewhat longer trail. The shorter trail starts just beneath the rising, whilst the longer trail starts in the village of Robidišče (circular tour or tour along the paved main road in both directions). The tour to Mt. Joanaz (Ivanac) is a good alternative to the tour to Mt. Matajur and appropriate for families with small children.
The easier trail starts next to the San Antonio chapel. The trail is routed across the meadow for the first few hundreds of metres and later crosses the recently cut forest (bushes). You will be accompanied by splendid views all along the trail. When you ascend a bit higher, the trail turns through the pine and spruce forest which offers pleasant shade during the summer months. Later, the trail joins the cart track and slowly reaches the meadows where you can enjoy in views of the numerous summits and settlements in the Friuli lowlands. View of Mt. Matajur is the nicest. The top of the rising is hidden a bit further from here and you can reach it by following the marked trail across the section covered with bushes.
Author’s recommendation
Because there is no mountain hut or drinking water on the mountain we advise you to bring knapsack drink and food. In sunny weather, it is also almost mandatory to bring a mat to rest between the summits.

The trail is safe and appropriate for children. Caution is only required when crossing tree roots which are, however, well visible. During the summer months, we advise you to bring a sufficient supply of water and sun protection.Tips and hints
More demanding hikers can start this tour in the village of Robidišče and follow the paved road in one direction and the gravel road routed past the village of Montefosca (Črni vrh) in the other direction. In this case, the tour is significantly longer (22 km).Start
