Mt. Srednji vrh and Mt. Krnčica are peaks in Mt. Krn Mountain chain. This tour is also interesting from the historical point of view because you come across numerous remnants of World War I.
From the Pri koritu parking lot you follow the marked trail towards the Vrata Mountain pass. Initially, you ascend through a forest and continue across the Zapleč Mountain pasture where you follow the stone cairns. The trail is well-worn and directions are simple because the foothills of the mountain chain with our destinations are well-visible. In front of the Zapleč Mountain pasture you turn to the right and follow the marked mule trail towards the Vrata Mountain pass. From here, you follow the mule trail to the right which takes you through a short tunnel (flashlight is not required) and further towards your destination. The trail is continuously ascending and ends with a steeper ascent just beneath Mt. Krnčica. Beneath the top of Mt. Krnčica you arrive to a junction. The trail to the left turns towards Mt. Krnčica, but you continue straight ahead towards Mt. Krn. You soon arrive to the top of Mt. Srednji vrh with splendid views of Mt. Krn and Mt. Krnčica if you turn back along the ridge. Hikers experienced in hiking along ridges can ascend to the top of Mt. Krnčica along the ridge, however, others should return along the access trail to the junction where the sign point to the top of Mt. Krnčica. You return along the same trail you came from.
I recommend you to first ascend along the marked trail to Mt. Srednji vrh and then hike along the ridge to the top of Mt. Krnčica. Directions are simple, however, the trail requires caution.
From the Vrata Mountain pass there is a mule trail routed along the exposed terrain. If you decide to take the ridge trail from Mt. Srednji vrh towards Mt. Krnčica, which is not entirely marked, you should be cautious while hiking and climbing. Directions are simple.
If you walk in a group, I recommend you to use safety helmets because certain parts of the trail are routed along rocky terrain.
Tips, hints and links
If you would like to shorten the tour you can drive to the parking lot in front of the Zapleč Mountain pasture. Certain sections of the road are in somewhat bad condition and less appropriate for vehicles with low chassis.

The trail from the parking lot to the Zapleč Mountain pasture is poorly marked, but well-worn and easy to follow.
In front of the Zapleč Mountain pasture, just next to the parking lot, there are signs on your right which you follow in the direction of the Vrata Mountain pass and Mt. Krn. The comfortable mule trail is covered with grass and easy to follow. The trail from beneath the Vrata Mountain pass to the top of both mountains is routed along rocky terrain. The mule trail is also routed through a short tunnel. Certain sections of the trail are carved into solid rock or quite exposed, but safe. In spite of it being safe, the trail requires constant caution, especially if you decide to hike along the ridge trail from Mt. Srednji vrh towards Mt. Krnčica.
