The route of 2 passes and 2 countries
A popular training route for road cyclists, which includes the challenge of climbing the Vršič and Predel passes. It also allows you to jump on the Mangart saddle.
Start of cycling in the summer-winter tourist place Kranjska Gora (720m). Following the asphalt road, ascend to the heart of the Julian Alps in 25 sharp bends to a height of 1611m to the top of the Vršič pass, where the Poštarski dom mountain hut is open in summer. On one side of the pass rises Mojstrovka, and on the other side Prisojnik - both well over 2,000 m high.
On the other side of the pass, the road descends steeply into the Trenta Valley. After 25 sharp bends and a greater slope of the road than during the ascent, the route descends past the source of the Soča River, past the Information Center of the Triglav National Park to Bovec. From Bovec head to Log pod Mangartrom - Predel pass where the Italian-Slovenian border is and on the Italian side past Tarvisio and Rateče back to Kranjska Gora.
It is about 90 km long with an ascent of about 1,000 m and a descent of 800 m. Between Tarvisio and Kranjska Gora there is a well-maintained, two-lane cycle path with a minimum slope.
