From the village of Tolminske Ravne ascend to the Razor Mountain pasture along the marked hiking trail. Just above the village you can quench your thirst at the trough with running water and then choose one of the two ascents. The left trail is shorter and steeper, whilst the right trail is routed along a comfortable mule trail. This option is usually selected if the area above the starting point is already covered with a blanket of snow. You exit the forest after approximately 60 minutes. On the mountain pasture, you can soon notice the mountain hut which is closed during the winter months.
If snow conditions are good, you can put on your skis already on the mountain pasture. Walk past the mountain hut on the mountain pasture (closed during the winter months) along logical passages until you reach the thin forest which you pass on the right side and continue ascending along the snowy slope (see the photopgraph with the drawn direction of the ascent). When you arrive to a level section you can enjoy in splendid views of the adjacent peak called Meja which, like other summits above the Razor Mountain pasture, offers excellent conditions for ski touring. Continue ascending to the right and, at the next level section, turn towards the nice slope leading to the top. If the slope is hard, we recommend you to ascend along the hollow depression located on the left side of the ridge.
Author’s recommendation
During the spring months, when the nights are still cold, we advise you not to climb to Mt. Rušnati vrh in early morning hours because the slope only becomes well skiable in the middle of the day.
Because of the southern location and inclination of the slopes of Mt. Rušnati vrh we advise you not to take this tour immediately after the snowfall. The most favourable conditions for ascents and skiing are after the avalanches have occurred on the slope and when the snow changes its form – after a period of sunny days which contribute to faster reformation of the snow blanket.
Tips and hints
From the top of the mountain you can also descend towards the east. This direction will take you to the slope beneath the Globoko Mountain pass.
If you intend to take several tours in this area you can spend the night at the winter cabin. There are 10 beds available in this cabin which is located next to the mountain hut on the Razor Mountain pasture.

Turn-by-turn directions
From the parking lot in the village of Tolminske Ravne, follow the trail towards the Razor Mountain pasture. At the marked junction at the trough with running water, choose between the shorter and steeper trail and the longer and more gradually ascending trail. When you exit the forest and arrive to the pastures, you can immediately notice the stubby Mt. Rušnati vrh above the mountain pasture. Here, turn directly uphill to the foothills of the mountain and cross the slope to the left towards the west. Ascend to the well visible mountain pass and continue along the right slope until you reach the next level section of the trail. Here, continue to the right towards the east. If the ridge in front of you is hard and uncomfortable for walking you can hike along the shallow depression located on the left side of the ridge and continue towards the summit, or you can put on your crampons and use the ice-axe. Before you reach the summit you also have to cross the top ridge. Ski in the direction you came from and select the most comfortable route. We recommend you to inspect the terrain and decide the route of skiing already during your ascend to the mountain.
Complete winter equipment. The top section of Mt. Rušnati vrh is often very hard and without snow and requires the use of crampons and the ice axe if the ascend on skis becomes problematic.
