Straža is a very popular and well visited hill on the south side of Lake Bled. A chairlift takes you to Straža, Rikli’s fitness trail is available there and Rikli's monument is preserved on the southern part of the plateau of the peak.  Straža offers an extraordinary view to the Bled Castle and the Julian Alps with Triglav.

Straža (646 m) spreads out on the southern side of Lake Bled and is the most known and popular hill above Bled with a very long tourist tradition. Straža is where Arnold Rikli, healer and pioneer of tourism in Bled, was already running his programmes. Many paths lead to Straža from various starting points around the hill, the so called Rikli’s fitness trail is also available there along with an adrenaline park on the plateau of the peak. A smaller ski slope is located on Straža with two facilities, the chairlift operates most of the year, and a sledding run is available during summer months. Straža is a popular destination with viewpoints, which offer many opportunities for taking photos, precisely because of the option to access it by cable car. An entertainment and recreational infrastructure for mainly younger visitors is available at the lower cable car station.

  • Do not forget to take the camera with you.
  • A map of Bled/of the hiking trail will be of help during your trip.
  • Take your time at certain stops of the fitness trail in order to complete the physical exercises and to breathe in the fresh air.

Turn-by-turn directions

PARKING AREA AT THE LOWER CHAIRLIFT STATION TO STRAŽA (ŽELEČE) – STRAŽA ON THE SIDE OF THE SETTLEMENT OF ŽELEČE – MONUMENT TO RIKLI – STRAŽA PEAK – STRAŽA LOWER CABLE CAR STATION

Right before the parking area by the information board we turn left on a trail up the hill above Villa Ciklama. At the two crossroads we always turn right and ascend on a zigzag path to a smaller rock barrier. There is a pass (stone steps) on the right taking us to a viewpoint with a shed on the Želeče's side of Straža. From there we continue on the right toward the ski slope to the west, crossing it briefly and then uphill on the left on Rikli’s fitness trail which takes us to the plateau on the peak.  We bypass the adrenaline park on the left side, and in a right arc the trail takes us past Rikli’s monument on the south-western and western edge of Straža to the upper chairlift station on the peak of Straža with the infrastructure for visitors. We descend on the ski slope until we reach the lower chairlift station and from there to the starting point in the parking area in a short ascent.
