The panoramic view by the Church of St. Catherine on Hom is located between the village of Zasip and represents one of the most characteristic images of this place. France Prešeren, Slovenia's greatest poet, named it the “Altar of Gorenjska”.  St. Catherine is a popular hiking destination and excursion point located on the south access path to the Vintgar Gorge and on the path to the top of the Hom hill (834 m). From here, a magnificent view opens up to Bled and the surrounding area, reaching from the near Karavanke mountain range and Kamnik-Savinja Alps in the north-east, through the Radovljica basin all the way to the Ljubljana Basin in the south-east, and to the Jelovica and Pokljuka plateau in the south and south-west.

The Hom hill is delineated by the Bled corner north of Bled.  The Vintgar Gorge is located behind Hom, which was carved by the Radovna river and is generally one of the most visited natural attractions in Slovenia.

Turn-by-turn directions

SPA PARK–ZASIP–ST. CATHERINE ABOVE ZASIP–ZASIP–SPA PARK

From the Spa Park we follow the Cesta svobode road to the bus station and ascend through the settlement of Grad to the Prešernova cesta road and then to the Partizanska cesta road junction. We follow this road until we reach the northern bypass, which we cross, then we keep following the Partizanska cesta road and the main local roads to Zasip. When we arrive at the Pri Kureju inn, we follow the signposts uphill between the houses and then take the steep access road uphill to St. Catherine. There is a viewpoint west of the church. From the intersection by the church we follow a dirt road, first toward the east and then north. There is a playground on the right. From here, a dirt forest road leads through the forest to the north and turns right downhill at the edge of the plateau. We follow the forest road that descends and turns in a slight arc back to the south toward Bled. Upon descending we can see the access points to the Zipline Dolinka on the left, and the road takes us to the meadows and fields east of the village of Zasip. From here we keep walking on a narrow asphalt road through the settlement. We follow the signposts and arrive back to the Bled–Zasip access road in the immediate vicinity of the Kurej inn. Here, we turn left, then to the south again and take the same path as when descending from Bled to Zasip to return to Bled on the Partizanska cesta road and further on through the hamlet of Grad to the Spa Park.
