The trail is a combination of a hike from Bled to the Stan hill and further on across the Poglej Common, where our journey joins Rikli’s Trail in Gorje. Rikli’s Trail leads us over the Pasji hrbet hill to the renowned Poglej Church archaeological site and back to Bled through the village of Poljščica.

The path leads us from the centre of Bled by the picturesque lake and below the famous Bled Castle to the Bled Jezero railway station and from there on a scenic panoramic trail to the Stan hill past a giant spruce tree and further on under the Ravnica hill and across the Poglej Common to Križe, where we join Rikli’s Trail in Gorje. Rikli’s Trail was created during the time of the healer Arnold Rikli in Bled, who live with his patients according to the water, air and sun principle. Years ago, the trail in Gorje was restored and adapted to tourists, so that they may relive the period of time 150 years ago.  Rikli’s Trail leads us past a town where in 1865 the first light and air bath in the world was established, named Arnold's Heights.   Here, a new information board was placed, standing at the location of the former memorial plaque which was put up by Rikli’s followers in 1891. From there, we descend toward Gorje and visit the Poglej Church archaeological site above the village of Poljščica and then we head back to the centre of Bled across the Poljščica fields.

Turn-by-turn directions

SPA PARK–BLED JEZERO RAILWAY STATION–STAN-POGLEJ COMMON–STOVIČJE–ZATRATA-POGLEJ CHURCH–POLJŠČICA–REČICA–MALA ZAKA–SPA PARK

From the Spa Park we head toward west and follow the local road, which is closed to public traffic, under the church, above the Public Lido and beneath Bled Castle to the rowing centre in Mala Zaka. After the roundabout we find the path (markings for the Juliana Trail) and ascent to the Bled Jezero railway station. From here, we continue on the road toward Velika Zaka, and when the road starts to descend, we turn right into the forest at the signpost. We ascend on the trail above the railway tunnel, which takes us to the edge of a steep slope above the Zaka Camp. We continue on the steep edge past several viewpoints until we reach a junction with a signpost. Through a rocky passage we descend to the giant spruce tree (information board). From here, we ascend on a wide path toward the Ravnica hill. Under the hill we turn left at two junctions with signposts and then connect on a wide path to a forest road n the edge of the Poglej Common pasture. Following the forest road, which leads to the Rčitno mountain pasture, we ascend to the Križi meadows (“Urevčev rovt” alpine meadow). Here we make a sharp turn right onto a trail which ascends to the highest point of the Vrh Plan peak path or to the Pasji hrbet peak. We continue down on this trail and in a smaller valley head toward the information board on Rikli’s Trail. We then continue on the trail until we reach a forest clearing, named Stovičje, where there is a small football field. We keep descending toward the east on a forest path to the settlement of Zatrata.   From here, we walk on a narrow local paved road toward the settlement of Zaboršt. Just above the houses we turn right uphill to the Poglej Church archaeological site. We descend back to a local road on a steep trail, leading us through the picturesque village of Poljščica toward Bled. Right before the railway track we turn right and then we cross the bridge and the track downhill to the Kolodvorska cesta road which leads us to the Bled Jezero railway station. From here we follow the same path as at the beginning of the hike – through Mala Zaka by the lake beneath the castle back to the starting point.
