You will meet nine main characters from Bohinj folk tales along the trail. There are seven in Ukanc, one on Vogel and one at the entrance to the Savica Waterfall. The fairy trail is the perfect place for family activities in nature, games that can be played along the way or elsewhere on your family trips to nature. All activities are designed to stimulate the seven senses: sights, hearing, smell, taste, feel, balance and kinaesthetics. Wandering along the Fairy Trail stimulates natural forms of movement, i.e. walking, running, jumping, climbing, spinning, swinging and crawling.

You can walk an hour or the whole day along the approximately 2 kilometres long circular trail. The perfect guide is the booklet containing fairy tales from Bohinj, a map and slots for stamps that you can collect along the trail. Stamps can be found along the boards describing the fairy characters, and you earn them only if you do the tasks written on the boards. All fairytales, collected in the booklet, originate from Bohinj and have been arranged according to original stories. The booklet is for sale in all info centres in Bohinj and tourist facilities in Ukanc.

Two Zlatorog rules must be considered by all children, including pre-school children along the trail as well as elsewhere:

  1. Love nature and protect it!
  2. Be kind to all living creatures you meet along the way!

Turn-by-turn directions

The trail itself is circular and starts at the main road a few metres away from the entrance to the Bohinj campsite. Then continue along the meadow until you reach the bridge crossing the Savica River, where you turn right towards the lake. Continue along the lake for a few hundred metres to a small crossroads in the meadow where you turn left. Walk westwards until you reach an asphalted road, where you turn left again. From here on the path goes back to the start of the route along the main road.
